Workshops for Cancer Thrivers

We bring empowering workshops to every country we teach in. Small, interactive, and designed with you in mind — each workshop helps you feel more confident, supported, and connected to your own body.

Cancer Thriver Workshops are informative, non-medical workshops created for people who are living with, recovering from, or taking a pause from cancer treatment. They offer a safe, welcoming space where the body is met with respect, knowledge, and realistic care — and where questions, emotions, and lived experience are always welcome.

Each workshop blends evidence-informed education with practical self-care tools. Topics may include the lymphatic system, body changes after treatment, oncology massage, post-operative support, and how complementary approaches can support overall wellbeing. Participants are also guided through accessible self-massage and lymphatic drainage practices that are sensory, supportive, and adaptable to individual needs.

Our workshops are grounded in care, awareness, resilience, and evidence — while also leaving room for curiosity, lightness, and moments of joy. Because wellness after cancer should feel empowering, honest, and human.

Each workshop is unique. Explore upcoming Cancer Thriver Workshops below.

Who is a Thriver? You Are!

A cancer thriver is anyone whose life has been touched by cancer. You might be in treatment, just finishing treatment, or living with long-term effects from past treatment. No matter where you are on your journey, you deserve care that is safe, supportive, and empowering.

During treatment, you may experience:

  • Fatigue, low blood counts, nausea, or digestive changes
  • Skin sensitivity, burns, or post-surgical discomfort
  • Emotional challenges such as anxiety, fear of recurrence, or stress
  • Ports, catheters, or other medical devices that affect touch

After treatment, common effects can include:

  • Risk of swelling or lymphatic changes
  • Scar tissue, cording, or limited mobility
  • Nerve sensitivity, fatigue, or bone and joint changes
  • Emotional challenges or shifts in body image

Wherever you are in your journey, our workshops and resources meet you there.

How Oncology Massage Supports Cancer Thrivers

Oncology-trained massage therapists help you move safely, feel comfortable in your body, and reduce the risk of complications after treatment. The focus is always on your unique needs — comfort, safety, and empowerment.

They are trained to:

  • Modify massage safely for people who have experienced chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery, or who have or are at risk of lymphedema
  • Adapt sessions for low blood cell counts and other treatment-related considerations
  • Understand common side effects such as nausea, fatigue, aches, pain, anxiety, and sensory changes
  • Adjust pressure, positioning, and pacing to meet your body where it is

They also understand that:

  • Every day can feel different during and after cancer
  • Sessions may need to shift for good days, hard days, and emotionally heavy days
  • Your mental and emotional wellbeing are just as important as your physical comfort

Questions You Can Ask Your Therapist

It’s okay, and encouraged, to ask questions that help you feel safe and supported.

  • What oncology massage training have you completed, and are you experienced working with people in active treatment?
  • How can we make sure I am comfortable on the table, especially if I need specific positioning because of pain, surgery, a port, or limited movement?
  • I have lymphedema, or I am at risk for it. Are you trained to work with this safely, and can you adapt the session if symptoms flare?
  • Are you familiar with common treatment side effects, and how do you make sure I feel heard and in control during our session, especially on days when I am not feeling my best?

Your presence helps shape the future of oncology care.

What to Expect in a Session at our client clinic

Client Clinic

Our client clinics offer a free, one-hour oncology-informed massage — a genuine gift to you, and a vital part of how we train the next generation of oncology massage therapists.

Your comfort, safety, and autonomy come first, always. Every session is guided entirely by your needs on that day. Positioning, pressure, pacing, and support are fully adapted for you. Want to keep your wig on? Need extra pillows? Prefer a pause or a shorter focus area? Just say the word — this session is yours.

Before your session you will complete a confidential intake form. Student therapists review this to learn how to thoughtfully and safely adapt massage for your individual health history, treatments, and comfort levels. Your information is used solely for educational purposes and to ensure your session feels tailored and respectful.

Sessions take place in a variety of settings — sometimes a dedicated massage school with full privacy and a calm clinical atmosphere, and sometimes a hotel conference room that is a little busier. We always work to create the most comfortable environment possible within the space we have, and our instructor are present throughout to support both you and the student therapists.

We also want to be upfront — in a classroom setting, getting on and off the table with full dignity takes a little extra care. Our students are trained in proper draping and client handling, and your comfort and privacy are always a priority. Occasionally things are not perfect, but your wellbeing is never an afterthought.

Spots at each clinic are limited and fill quickly.

Think of it as complementary care with a purpose — you receive, and the future of oncology massage benefits.
